At Homegrass, we supply a wide variety of products. We divide our assortment into 4 different product groups: landscape, landscape budget, sport and play, and trendy grass. People often think that you can always use the same approach when installing artificial grass, but this is not the case at all. Each product has a different handling method. Here you can read step by step how to work with our different products.
With Trendy grass, you can go in any direction. It’s suitable for events, shops, restaurants, ships, or just on your own balcony. With the beautiful and varied colors, we can create any imaginable image in the form of artificial grass. Trendy grass often has very short fibers, which makes creating beautiful and invisible seams a bit more challenging. We say: the shorter the fiber, the more difficult the seam. We’ll explain the installation process to you step by step.
Step 1: It’s often helpful to cut the roll to size in advance. This prevents you from having to handle a large roll in the garden. For example, if you have a roll of 16×4 and you need 2 pieces of 8×4, cut it to size beforehand. This saves a lot of weight and carrying work.
Step 2: Roll out the artificial grass in the container and make sure you have 5 centimeters of clearance on all sides. You can use this later to carefully cut the artificial grass into the container.
Step 3: If you’re working with multiple pieces of artificial grass, you’ll need to create a nice seam. First, it’s essential to cut the size “clean”. Cut off the flap that runs next to the pile line on the underside of the mat. Do this on both mats. Then, pull the mats towards each other. The space between the pile lines on the underside of the mat should be about the same as the space between the mats you’re pulling together. You can always use this as a rule of thumb. Carefully close the seam by letting the fibers of the grass fall into each other simultaneously. Check if your seam looks good before you start gluing. With Trendy grass, it’s smart to put more energy and time into laying the seams properly. It’s short-pile grass. Making the seam will be a bit more difficult. The space between the mat often needs to be less than with other types of artificial grass. Pay close attention to this!
Step 4: Once you have laid the mats properly, make sure to put some weight on them. This ensures that your mats can’t shift between laying and gluing.
Step 5: Carefully cut the artificial grass into the area. It’s best to cut the mat from the underside. If you don’t do this, it’s possible that you’ll cut the fibers of the mat, making it look like a chunk has been taken out of your artificial grass.
Step 6: Open up the created seams on one side so that you can place the adhesive tape underneath.
Step 7: Prepare all materials to glue the artificial grass together.
Step 8: Pull out the adhesive tape and make sure it’s the same length as the seam you’re going to glue. Ensure there’s enough glue on your adhesive tape, using an adhesive board + glue tray, or glue comb. It’s very important not to apply the glue too thickly, as this can cause glue to come through the seam, or the fibers may get stuck under the glue. The adhesive tape must always be taut. Check carefully to make sure there are no folds in the adhesive tape.
Step 9: Close the seam neatly and carefully. The best way to do this is: lift both mats slightly and let the fibers fall into each other simultaneously. Do this bit by bit and take your time. Be careful that the fibers don’t get into the glue. The glue is very difficult to remove, so you will continue to see it very clearly afterwards.
Step 10: Walk along the seam firmly with both feet. This presses the bottom of the mat extra well into the adhesive. This ensures that the adhesive will bond properly.
Step 11: When installing Trendy grass, very little or no sand is often used. This makes the weight of the mat much lighter. When the grass is laid outside, it may start to blow up due to the wind. You can then choose to glue it down with our Homegrass kits. These ensure that the grass stays in place.
Step 12: If sanding is necessary, distribute the quartz sand over the artificial grass surface. Ensure that the sand is evenly spread everywhere. We recommend using a sanding cart to optimize the sand distribution. It can also be done by hand. When sanding, it’s important that the grass is as dry as possible. Wet artificial grass is very difficult to sand
Step 13: Brush the sand well into the mat. If you use a brushing machine, you can perfectly distribute the sand and brush it well into the bottom of the mat. It can also be done with a stiff broom, however, it is quite difficult to get the sand properly into the mat this way.
