People often think that you can always follow the same procedure when installing artificial grass, but this is not the case at all. Each product requires a different approach. Here you can read step by step how to work with our different products.
Landscape artificial grass is generally often used when installing artificial grass in a garden. With this grass, you can create a fantastic new lawn that is barely distinguishable from a real one. When the substructure is completely ready, you can start installing the Landscape artificial grass, but how do you actually work with Landscape artificial grass? We’ll explain it to you step by step!
Step 1: A hard, flat substructure is essential for the installation of an artificial grass project. The substructure should be leveled about 1 centimeter below paving level. This way, the artificial grass fits nicely into the area.
Step 2: You roll out the pressure-distributing fabric and cut it neatly into the area where the artificial grass needs to be placed. The pressure-distributing fabric ensures the distribution of the pressure that the artificial grass endures, so with the help of the pressure-distributing fabric, you get fewer dips in your substructure. Tip: Wet the pressure-distributing fabric with a garden hose. This prevents it from shifting during the installation of artificial grass.
Step 3: It’s often useful to measure the surface again and pre-cut the roll to size. This prevents you from having to bring a very large roll into the garden. For example, if you have a roll of 16×4 and you need 2 pieces of 8×4, cut it to size in advance. This saves a lot of weight and carrying work.
Step 4: Roll out the artificial grass in the area and make sure you have 5 centimeters of clearance on all sides. You can use this later to carefully cut the artificial grass into the area.
Step 5: If you are working with multiple pieces of artificial grass, you need to create a nice seam. First, it’s essential to cut the mat “clean”. You cut off the flap that runs next to the pile line on the bottom of the mat. You do this on both mats. Then you start pulling the mats towards each other. The space between the pile lines on the bottom of the mat should be approximately the same as the space between the mats that you pull towards each other. You can always use this as a rule of thumb. Carefully close the seam by letting the fibers of the grass fall into each other simultaneously. Check if your seam is nice before you start gluing.
Step 6: Once you have laid the mats properly, make sure to put some weight on them (sandbags). This ensures that your mats can no longer shift during the gluing process.
Step 7: Carefully cut the artificial grass into the area. Be especially careful not to damage too many artificial grass fibers. If you do this, you will see it very clearly later. Tip: Always make sure to cut with a sharp knife. This way, you cut in the easiest and most beautiful way.
Step 8: Open all made seams on one side so that you can place the adhesive tape underneath.
Step 9: Prepare all materials to glue the artificial grass together.
Step 10: Pull out the adhesive tape and make sure it has the same length as the seam you are going to glue. Ensure there is enough glue on your adhesive tape, using a glue board + glue tray, or artificial grass kit + glue comb. It’s very important not to apply the glue too thickly, if you do this, glue can come through the seam, causing glue to get on the artificial grass fibers. The adhesive tape must always lie flat. Check carefully that there are no wrinkles on the adhesive tape.
Step 11: Close the seam neatly and carefully. The best way to do this is: lift both mats a little and let the fibers fall into each other simultaneously. Do this bit by bit and take your time. Be careful that the fibers don’t get into the glue. The glue is very difficult to remove, so you will continue to see it very clearly afterwards. Then firmly press down the seam with both feet. This presses the bottom of the mat extra well into the adhesive. This ensures that the adhesive will bond properly.
Step 12: Anchoring the mat is very important. This keeps the mat firmly in place during bad weather conditions. When anchoring, it’s important that no fibers get caught under the anchors. Remove them from underneath before fully driving them into the ground.
Step 13: You will distribute the quartz sand over the artificial grass surface. Ensure there is enough sand everywhere and that it is optimally distributed. The sanding can be done by hand or with a sanding cart. When sanding, it’s important that the grass is as dry as possible. Wet artificial grass is very difficult to sand.
Step 14: Brush the sand well into the mat. If you use a brushing machine, you can perfectly distribute the sand and brush it well into the bottom of the mat. It can also be done with a stiff broom.
